  • Language Arts:
    • required reading (six books each semester) - two books of your own choice, four to be assigned - chosen books must be 350 page minimum and reading level appropriate.
    • online "reading circle" postings on one of the required reading books - two postings each week: first - your personal thoughts, second - response to other's thoughts.
    • two "theme papers" (one each quarter) on one of the assigned books you're now reading within the quarter.
    • two "poetry/song analysis" (one each quarter) - any song or poem you choose.
    • two "literary critiques" (one each quarter) on the current books you've personally chosen and are now reading within the quarter.
    • one "language arts project" required each semester (may do two) - for semester symposium presentation.
    • final exam at end of each semester!
    Social Studies:
    • required reading (one book each semester) - will be one of the language arts assigned reading books - above.
    • two "magazine/journal reports" (one each quarter) on an important contemporary social topic.
    • two "substantive issues papers" (one each quarter) on a current important social issue.
    • two "history/cultural powerteaches" (one each quarter)
    • "social studies notebook" (due at end of semester) - must include notes from all student presentations.
    • one "social/environmental global issues project" - (must involve your personal, active participation) - for semester symposium presentation... *also counts for science - (see below).
    • final exam at end of each semester!
    Science:
    • two "magazine/journal reports" (one each quarter) - on an important modern scientific discovery or breakthrough.
    • two "substantive issues papers" (one each quarter) - on a current important scientific issue.
    • two "science concepts powerteaches" (one each quarter)
    • "science notebook" (due at end of semester) - most include all "science concepts" classroom notes and weekly assignments.
    • one "social/environmental global issues project" - (must involve your personal, active participation) - for semester symposium presentation... *also counts for social studies - (see above).
    • final exam at end of each semester!
    With Project:
    • project proposal/presentation (due quarter one) - a proposal is required for each project of which you are a team member.
    • online project reports (due each week).
    • project research paper (appropriate sections due each quarter) - 2,500 word minimum.
    • project research presentation (due at completion of research project).
    Without Project:
    • library research paper (one paper due each semester) - 2,500 word minimum - check for approval from learning guide before commencing research.
    • library research presentation (due at end of each semester).
    Math:

    Algebra One / Geometry / Pre-Cal:
    • math notebook (due at end of semester) - must include weekly classroom notes, exercises, quizzes, quarter exam.
    • practical "math projects" (100 pts. required each semester) - for semester symposium presentation.
    • final exam at end of each semester!
    Computer Tech:
    • weekly personal online calendar update (due by Friday evening).
    • "weekly activity ledger" (due by Friday evening) - counts as "bonus points" in all academic content areas!
    • update & maintain your personal academic website
    • two internet research summaries (one each quarter)
    • computer tech projects (100 pts. required each semester) - for semester symposium presentation.
    Environmental Expeditions:
    • six "social/historical/environmental expeditions" (three each quareter) - surveys & reflections count as "bonus points" in all academic content areas... (only for those students who have chosen to participate in "expeditions")!
    Academic Portfolio:
    • "academic portfolio/conference" (due at end of semester) - collection of all your "best work" for the semester; student led presentation to teachers & parents during conference
